					OUR PROGRAMS
A staff of resident marine biologists
and environmental educators offer a wide variety of programs to
meet the needs of participants, whether they are 4th graders on
their own for the first time, middle school students exploring a
new world, college students enrolled in a course, or teachers
						upgrading their skills and knowledge.
Throughout the history of NHMI programs, objectives have included
offering each participant opportunities to develop knowledge and
respect for our natural world; a sense of the beauty and inherent
value of ocean environs; and positive attitudes about themselves
and the world around them. Since 1966, more than 120,000 youth and
adults have been enriched through sharing these field-oriented
						opportunities.

					A typical 3-day/2-night class
experience at NHMI consists of four daytime programs and two
evening programs, during which students snorkel, wade and study
with their instructors, in teaching groups of 10-12 students. The
						daytime programs include:

					-
						Coral Ecology (boat trip)

-
						Nearshore Ecology (boat optional)

-
						Coastal Ecology

-
						Marine Investigations

In addition, there are two evening
programs. If your group stays longer than three days, or brings a
					van, additional programs are
					available.

					ORGANIZING AN NHMI FIELD TRIP

STEP 1- Choosing a Date First contact NHMI to set a
tentative field trip date. A typical field trip program lasts three
days and two nights. these programs run from Monday-wednesday,
wednesday-Friday and Friday-Sunday. Extended stays can be arranged
and are common for school groups who want a more in-depth program.

STEP 2- your Follow-Up Packet We will send you
follow-up information that will answer many of your questions and
help take the guesswork out of your trip. this will include the
					following:

					- - A confirmation of your reservation.

- - A checklist of things to consider while planning your
						trip.

- - Parent information including approval forms and a
						"what to bring" list.

- - Group roster and student accounting sheets.

STEP 3- Parental Permission Next, send parent
brochures and parent permission forms home with students. A
15-minute NHMI video is available to create additional interest and
					answer parents' questions.

STEP 4- Deposits $150.00 deposit from each student. Please
					note that deposits are non-refundable.
